Spring Is In The Air, And So Are Allergies!

Spring seems to be starting to show its head after a very moderate winter. The trees will soon begin to blossom around us, and the outdoors will slowly beckon us out of our hibernative state we’ve existed in under our blankets. But seasons are not the only thing that change as the months press forward, because as winter turns into spring, the air around us begins to change as well.

The average human being will take about 23,000 breaths per day; about 16 breaths per minute. It’s a reflex that’s automated to keep us alive, so we don’t think about it very often. But all air we breathe is not the same, and depending on the allergens in the air, you could be susceptible to seasonal allergies, which are coming with spring! Here are some tips to get them before they get you.

It’s Not Just Outside

Your seasonal allergies don’t just affect you when you’re outside. By just opening your windows you are inviting in the air that can cause your symptoms to worsen. Try and rely on using your air conditioner to cool down the house.

But while doing so be sure to take care of your air conditioner. With forced air heating and air conditioning make sure you use high-efficiency filters and have regularly scheduled check ups. You can also use a dehumidifier to keep the indoor air dry!

Chores, Chores, Chores

In your home there are some precautions you can take to get rid of some allergens. Try to avoid clutter that allows for the collection of dust. You can also get rid of dust by washing sheets and pillowcases once a week, along with blinds and furniture.

If possible, try and to avoid having carpet flooring. By using hardwood floors, you stop the dust from collecting inside the rugs. If you use a rug ontop of your hardwood floor, be sure to wash it!

Be sure to wash and bathe your pets as well, as their fur can be another location for dust and allergens to collect. Your pets will also thank you for this one.

Follow these tips and you’ll find yourself a step ahead of those nasty allergens.
