Mini-split heat pumps offer versatility and convenience for homeowners by supplying highly efficient cooled (or heated air) without needing existing ductwork. What Is a Ductless Mini-Split?
With warmer weather rapidly approaching, keeping cool is at the top of mind this season. Since many homes in our area may not have existing central A/C, the perfect alternative is to instead opt for energy-efficient mini-splits! These systems are composed of an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units. These units work together to cool your entire home or selected rooms efficiently. Many models have a heating attachment that provides supplementary heating which makes mini-splits excellent for both the winter and summer months.

Mini-Split Heat Pumps FAQs
1. Is a mini-split cheaper than a heat pump?
Since mini-split units do not require the installation of ductwork, installation is usually much cheaper than forced-air HVAC system installation.
2. Do mini-splits use a lot of electricity?
Nope! Mini-split heat pumps, especially when tuned up annually, are incredibly energy-efficient and cost-effective to operate.
3. Do you need a mini-split in every room?
It’s up to you! If you already have heating installed in your home, you may only want to use mini-split heat pumps in rooms where you would like supplemental heating or air conditioning. However, you can combine several indoor units for whole-home comfort as opposed to installing traditional HVAC ductwork.
4. How long do mini-splits last?
With regular maintenance from the FSi HVAC team, your new mini-split heat pump can be expected to have a lifespan between 15–20 years.
5. How many hours does it take to install a mini-split?
Depending on the number of units you’d like to install, the size of the space you want to add zoned cooling and heating to, as well as the placement of the unit, it can take anywhere from just a couple of hours or up to a day to get your new ductless heat pump installed and operating to your specifications.
