What Service Plan Do I Need for My Heating System in Massachusetts?

Your furnace or boiler brings you plenty of comfort and warmth through the long fall and winter months when temperatures are often chilly, if not freezing. Maintaining your heating system requires some forethought and action on your part if you want it to sustain your Western Massachusetts home’s comfort for as many winters as possible. Enrolling in a heating service plan can do wonders for your furnace or boiler while providing you peace of mind.

What Does a Heating Protection Plan Include?

Heating service contacts typically always include annual or biennial tune-ups—how often will depend on your heating system and your fuel choice. FSi Oil and Propane will help you determine how often you should get your heating system serviced; newer models, using cleaner, lower-carbon fuels like Bioheat® fuel or propane, which tend to be less dirty and much easier on the systems, need tune-ups only every other year. Heating service contracts also include savings on repairs and priority emergency service, and advanced plans cover a generous number of part replacements.

Which Plan Is Right for Your Heating System?

When you are ready to enroll in an HVAC service plan, you’ll notice that many companies have plan tiers for the level of services offered, number of discounts available, and number of parts covered. The higher the tier, the more that is covered, and the more the plan may cost.

At FSi, we offer two tiers of plans: our Value Plan and the Advantage Plan. Choosing one or the other will depend ultimately on the condition of your heating system, and certain factors will affect the amount of maintenance your system may require over the winter. Consider the following when choosing a plan:

  • Age of the furnace or boiler
  • Maintenance history
  • Performance issues
  • Efficiency
  • Manufacturer recommendations

When to Sign up for an Advantage Plan

If your furnace or boiler is older than 5-10 years, enrolling in an Advantage Plan would be a great idea. This is because older furnaces are more likely to experience problems as they age, but having access to affordable maintenance and repairs and a plan in which many parts are covered can keep your system running at peak efficiency even when it is not brand new.

When to Sign up for a Value Plan

If your heating system is new, on the other hand, signing up for a Value Plan would be just fine! Newer systems are less likely to break down, but a Value Plan still offers tune-ups, priority emergency service, and discounts on repairs should you have any trouble over the season.
